Understanding the mechanisms of global warming, advancing renewable energy, and responding to complex environmental challenges all require people who can think scientifically, interpret evidence accurately, and develop solutions on their own initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The foundations of our department are mathematics, physics, earth science, materials science, and electronics \u2014 core fields that support modern science and technology. We believe that the ability to connect these fields across disciplinary boundaries is essential for tackling the increasingly complex environmental issues facing society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To allow students to develop their strengths according to their interests and future goals, the department offers two courses. In the Mathematical Science and Global Environmental Studies Course, students systematically study the foundations of the natural sciences, encounter advanced mathematical data science, and develop the ability to understand the formation of the Earth and environmental phenomena from a scientific perspective. In the Functional Device Physics Course, students study physics systematically, with a focus on electromagnetism, and learn how advanced devices and photonic technologies are developed and implemented in society. Both courses are designed to give students the flexibility to pursue their interests while building deep expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another major reason for establishing this department is the rapid development of data science and AI. Future science and technology will be impossible to imagine without them. Progress in environmental research and next-generation technologies increasingly depends on our ability to interpret the enormous amounts of data produced by advanced measurement systems. For this reason, programming, data science, AI, and quantitative analysis are essential skills for the coming era. Helping students acquire these skills is one of the central educational goals of our department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department of Environmental Mathematical and Physical Sciences is a new place of learning for high school students who want to study the natural sciences in depth and take on the challenge of bringing new technologies into society. I sincerely hope that the learning experience here will become an important step toward a future that you will help create with your own abilities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:31px\" sciences ranging from pure mathematics (algebra, geometry, and analysis) and theoretical physics to earth science, quantum computing, information security and cryptography, towards an understanding of Earth&#8217;s ecosystem and its application to climate change countermeasures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 has-link-color wp-elements-80ecb6cfc47b2c001961035c04c439fc\">Application of physics and realization of a green ICT society<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students will learn about the functions and uses of materials such as metals, semiconductors, insulators, magnetic materials, and dielectric materials, the operating principles and characteristics of devices such as optical, information communication, information recording, and video display devices, and the correlation between material functions and electronic device characteristics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div mathematics, theoretical physics, earth science, or knowledge of cutting-edge electronic devices and functional materials, as well as acquire advanced data analysis and AI technologies, and who aspire to solve global environmental issues and realize a green society, we are seeking applicants who:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Are interested in mathematics, physics, or earth sciences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Want to use their knowledge of mathematical science to clarify scientific truths and tackle various issues such as the global environment, and those who aim to bring about global and local innovation by developing new technologies and new functional materials using physics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are motivated to contribute to the development of the world and the region as
